Tigers Prepare to “Throwback the Wildcats!”

By Dannah Johnson

This Friday the Cedar Bluff Tigers take on the Sand Rock Wildcats at Bruce Field. In celebration the cheer team will be leading a “Throwback the Rams” pep rally. Students are asked “to rep their 80s wear.” Yes! That is right!  Wear the 80s fashion! Students are encouraged to ask parents and grandparents to get out that dusty box in the attic titled “Glory Days” and break out those leg warmers, dust off the acid wash jeans, and pull that hair up into a scrunchy or frieze it up because it's time to throw back!

Lost on what to wear? Let’s address the trends of the 80s. First, the hair. Big hair was all the rage in the 1980s. Three words: perms, perms, and more perms, but if you do not want to have your hair permanently look like you have been electrocuted, then a crimper or tight rollers will work fine.

Now the basics. Let’s start with tops. If you have a Coca cola shirt, a neon or pastel top, or an 80s band tee, then you are all set. Popped collars and denim on denim were also very popular. Now, these can be worn with a pair of acid washed jeans or denim skirt paired with fishnets or neon tights. No look is complete without a rad pair of shoes. Reboks, keds, and jelly sandals were very popular in the 1980s. A more achievable and updated alternative is a pair of white sneakers or a pair of Converse or Vans.

Time to accessorize! Accessories are “like totally” the cherry on top of your outfit. Geometric and chunky jewelry, and watches, lots of watches, Ray Ban sunglasses, scrunchies, Leg warmers, pins and Jelly bracelets are all great additions to your outfit.

Ok, ladies and gents, you are all set to create a fit for Friday that is 80s inspired “to the max!” Now let’s “Throwback the Wildcats!”
